The Winery

Château La Chapelle Despagnet is a small winery with seven hectares of vineyards. It is owned by the brothers Jean and Stan Gagnaire and is located one kilometer away from the famous bell tower in the village of Saint-Émilion. The vineyards are located on the very best loam-lime soil. The winery has the status of Grand Cru.

It is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The vines have an average age of 20 years. The planting density is 8,000 vines per hectare. The yield is limited to 45 hectolitres per hectare. Harvested by hand, between the end of September and the end of October. After the disruption, the long fermentation (2 to 3 weeks) and the malolactic fermentation in the barrel, the wine was raised in Barriques of French oak (33% new barrels) for 12 months.

Beautiful dense and shiny garnet red color. The nose reveals an expressive aroma of ripe red fruits. Round and full-bodied, rich in finesse and complex with a long reverberation.

The vines in the classified region of Saint Emilion Grand Cru are on average 45 years old and stand on ferrous sandy and gravel soils. Winemaking is traditionally carried out with temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. This wine matures on the bottle for some time before it can be released for sale.

Serving recommendation

At a recommended serving temperature of 17-18°C, this wine goes well with a grilled chateaubriand, roasts, exquisite poultry with spring vegetables, as well as all sorts of cheeses. Decant an hour before drinking.
