TASTING NOTES
Juicy and fresh, aromas are layered with a combination of mixed berry pie filling and toasted coconut. On the palate rich flavors of black cherry, blackberry, milk chocolate, coconut cream and hints of cream laden coffee are highlighted. The finish is long and sustaining with a touch of black pepper, laced with fresh vanilla and smooth coconut.
WINEMAKER NOTES
An excellent vintage for Zinfandel in California, a majority of the blend was sourced from vineyards in Lodi grown by the Schatz Family and the Manna Family. Harvest took place in early September with relatively low yields per acre, which provided fruit that was densely flavored with distinct fruit characters. A fair amount of Petite Sirah also sourced from the Schatz Family in Lodi was added to the blend to enhance the mouth feel with blueberry fruit and rich density. A touch of Zinfandel and Barbera from Paso Robles were also added to strengthen the depth of the wine. The final touch was Merlot from Mendocino and Clarksburg, which was also added for structure. Fresh and approachable, this wine is ready to enjoy right away.
FOOD PAIRINGS
The ultimate pairing for this Zinfandel would be a Portobello mushroom burger topped with a red pepper relish with a side of sweet potato fries. Or even better, pair with pork tamales or Korean BBQ tacos.
